Tochtech Technologies and Providence Living at The Views Announce Partnership for Innovative Dementia Care Solutions

Vancouver, BC – Sept 16 2024 – Tochtech Technologies is pleased to announce its collaboration with Providence Living at The Views with the implementation of Toch Sleepsense across 156 beds at the recently opened long-term care home in Comox, BC. Providence Living at The Views is the first phase in Providence Living’s commitment to personalized and resident-centered senior care.  Using the same innovate care model, Providence Living is set to bring an additional 700 long-term care beds at three new dementia villages in Prince George, Smithers and Quesnel, in Northern BC, in the coming years.

Providence Living at The Views stands as Canada’s first public, non-profit long-term care village inspired by the dementia village concept. Moving away from traditional task-based care, Providence Living emphasizes the residents’ needs and desires. Our innovative approach aims to ensure residents thrive through maintaining independence, social connections, and engaging in meaningful personal routines. By shifting towards a social relational and resident/family-centred model of care, called Home for Us, we aim to support residents in living their best lives within an environment that feels like home.

“Our Sleepsense bed sensor provides essential sleep, movement and vital sign data that empowers caregivers in delivering personalized and proactive care, and has proven to reduce resident falls. Additionally, it’s pressure wound management feature supports care staff in their efforts to prevent pressure injuries which is a major challenge and cost in senior care. We are proud to be supporting Providence Living in implementing global best practices and a care model that prioritizes the well-being of its residents.” said Jessica Yang, CEO of Tochtech Technologies.”

The new 156-resident village will serve as a true home for seniors, emphasizing individuality by recognizing the unique needs and interests of each resident. The care that residents of Providence Living at The Views will receive will be different from traditional seniors’ care because the new care model understands that aging adults are more likely to thrive when they are able to maintain their independence, social connections, and their desired and purposeful personal routines.

As part of this new care model, Providence Living at the Views is committed to using innovation and technology to support staff and transform the way seniors are cared for. In addition to the Sleepsense platform, Providence Living at The Views will be the first long-term care facility in British Columbia to utilize Wi-Fi enabled robots for the efficient movement of supplies and materials. This technological advancement is designed to reduce the workload on staff, allowing them to dedicate more time to meaningful interactions with residents. The home will also be implementing technologies that will help residents suffering from dementia better navigate their environment and promote optimized sleep which has been empirically proven to minimize adverse events, such as falls.

“Providence Living is delighted to bring our unique vision for long-term care to seniors across British Columbia,” said Mark Blandford, President & CEO of Providence Living. “Providence is dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors by transforming conventional long-term care homes into long-term care villages that embody evidence-based practices and research. These villages are designed to be vibrant communities where residents are supported to maintain their independence, social connections, and personal routines that give them comfort and purpose. Tochtech Technologies helps us achieve this resident-centred independence.”

Together, Tochtech Technologies and Providence Living at The Views are committed to enhancing the lives of seniors in their care and setting a new standard for dementia care in Canada.
