Tochtech Expands Sleepsense Across 178 Beds in Calgary, Advancing Dementia Care at Scale

Full-site deployment at Bethany Riverview and major expansion at the Academy of Aging reflect proven impact of AI-powered monitoring in long-term care.

Calgary, AB — Tochtech Technologies today announced a significant expansion of Sleepsense across two leading senior care communities in Calgary: Bethany Care Society’s Riverview site and the Academy of Aging at The Manor Village (owned by the Statesman Group).

In total, 178 beds across both communities are now powered by Sleepsense — marking a major step forward in technology-enabled dementia care in Alberta.

These expansions were driven by demonstrated, real-world benefits. After experiencing meaningful improvements in safety, workflow efficiency, and clinical insight, both organizations made the strategic decision to scale Sleepsense to support more residents and care teams.

Turning Overnight Data into Proactive Dementia Care

Sleepsense provides continuous, non-intrusive monitoring and actionable overnight insights — critical in dementia care settings where subtle changes can signal significant health risks.

Across early implementations, care teams have leveraged Sleepsense to:

  • Detect potential risks earlier and intervene proactively
  • Reduce unnecessary nighttime room entries and sleep disruption
  • Support more individualized, data-informed care planning
  • Strengthen team coordination and shift-to-shift communication
  • Enhance transparency and communication with families

At Bethany Riverview, the move to full 120-bed coverage reflects a commitment to consistent, technology-supported dementia care across the entire site.

At the Academy of Aging, the 58-bed expansion reinforces its leadership in progressive, person-centered care within The Manor Village community.

Leadership Perspectives

Debbie Hyman, VP & Director of Care at the Statesman Group, emphasized the importance of pairing technology with culture:

“Even with the usual learning curve that comes with new technology, our care team leaned into Sleepsense with strong adoption habits — we aligned on shared goals, built it into everyday routines, and kept the focus on resident dignity and personalized care. The difference is that we’re now pairing that human, relationship-based approach with far more objective, consistent overnight data, which strengthens our decisions, our teamwork, and our communication with families.”

Steven Friesen, Executive Director, Research and Innovation at Bethany Care Society, highlighted the broader impact on resident well-being:

“The implementation of Sleepsense in long-term care facilities with a focus on supporting seniors’ increased health management holds the promise of empowering residents and family caregivers to actively manage resident’s health, well-being, and quality of life. By enabling data-driven health management and fostering independence, the adoption of these sensors can lead to improved health outcomes and a higher quality of life for seniors living in long-term care.”

Scaling Innovation for Safer, Healthier Aging

As dementia care grows in complexity across Canada, providers are increasingly seeking intelligent solutions that enhance safety, dignity, and workforce effectiveness. The expansion of Sleepsense across these Calgary communities signals a broader shift toward evidence-based, technology-enabled care delivery.

Tochtech Technologies remains committed to empowering safer, healthier aging through innovation — supporting caregivers with the insights they need to deliver proactive, high-quality dementia care at scale.
